Why I Walk and Where I Go

Obviously I walk because I am on a mission to be in better shape. But there seems to be so much more to it now. It's weird, it's deep, and it's hard to explain.

More to the point - today I walked the almost four mile loop at Takena Landing Park. It's a nice trail that goes along the Willamette river and the GCO. This was a nice break from some serious new repsonsibilities at work that have required a lot of computer time. I did enjoy the early morning work routine and being done early in the afternoon, allowing for some walk time while this weather is so cool.

After arriving home, kiddo #2 and I decided it was time to hit Finley Wildlife Refuge again and to go check out the Cabell Marsh trail. What a delight. This slightly longer than two mile walk netted a great bird watching experience.

A partial list of what I think we saw:
Osprey
American White Pelican - a rarity at Finley
Blue Herons
Wood ducks and their babies
Canadian geese and their babies
American goldfinch
Rpbins and sparrows
Quails
Lots of butterflies
Lots of dragonflies
A little baby rabbit
Lots of snakes - the black and yellow striped ones

The weather was perfect. We actually got caught in a light sprinkle and had a wonderful time.

The Cabell marsh kiosk has a free viewing scope and was perfect to keep the kid involved.

I highly recommend taking the time to go check out this gem of a place right in our backyards!
