20 Miles - It Hurts and Other Things

Saturday was the last big endurance walk before the marathon in October. 20 miles on an out and back trail in Cottage Grove. The first 13 or so were not too bad and I did improve on my half marathon time. The last miles were hard and have me seriously considering my ability to complete the entire marathon. I am told by veterans that it will be easier than the 20 mile walk because there is so much more activity and support. I have 8 hours to finish, but am hoping for about 6 to 6.5. I may need to slow my overall pace down, rather than go for speed at the beginning. Being a virgin at this sure makes it tought to understand what all needs to happen and when.

To top things off, not only did I come home incredibly sore, I also have a lingering injury that I can't really figure out. The top of my left foot is swollen and painful. I'm assuming some sort of shoe problem, but don't even know how to go about addressing it. My walking coach will be back on Saturday and I am hoping she will be able to help. If things don't improve quickly, I'm not sure I will be able to do the Champoeg half on this coming Saturday. The last thing I need to do is to make it worse and then have a long recovery before Portland.

I have realized that training for events and exersizing to lose weight, don't always go well together. Right now I am in the taper down for Portland, which means cutting back significantly on daily endurance walking. Mentally, that is hard for me to compute, as I am in the mode of daily exercise is helping with the weight loss.

In other news, the kiddos have gone back to school. We are all still adjusting to the daily routine and what not. Jessica is in 5th grade and Simon is in Kindergarten. I am so proud of both of them and how well they are making the transition.

Next post - more about school and some pictures. For now - monthly numbers.

1000 will happen this weekend!

September totals to date:
Miles Moved - 75.12
Daily average - 4.94
Calories burned - 8020

Weight loss - somewhere around 95 pounds.
