Where to start?

I think with the middle of last week when I still had not recovered from the mystery virus and all of my joints started hurting and causing some crazy swelling.

Then I had the pleasure of enjoying a wonderful evening with many of our girl scout families as we ended the year with a barbecue and awards presentation with our troop. Kiddo #1 earned a crazy amount of cookie prizes and was presented with her bronze award. I am so darn proud of her!

Friday afternoon I got to go with Kiddo #1's class to the state capitol. Something I haven't done since high school FFA days.

Friday we also attended the Albany SU Girl Scout presentation where all five girls from our troop earning their bronze award this year were presented their bronze pins. The bronze award is the highest award a Junior girl scout can earn.

Saturday - I was determined to get in some miles - something that is sadly lacking in the month of May. I started at 6:30 and managed to get in 13.2. I was pretty slow as many joints are still hurting and my hands are still swelling like nuts. I did this walk without the Ipod and it was wonderful. The early morning hours are so refreshing.

Saturday evening the kiddo's and I went to a birthday party and had a great time.

Now to today - crazy as it sounds - I have been dying to do a hike in the Columbia Gorge for several weeks. I have hear that the meadows of wildflowers on this particular hike are amazing and something that should not be missed. Another bonus - several letterboxes up there too. So, we loaded up at 4:30 this morning and headed out. We wanted to make sure we could get an early start and find parking. We arrived at the trail head at 7:30, after a rush to get a NW Forest Pass. No problem parking and we promptly started up the Dog Mountain trail - the summit a paltry 3.8 miles away. Let me tell you, this is not a walk in the park. Quite a strenuous and sometimes difficult hike across trail that has very loose rock. We made it to the summit, found our first box, ate some fruit snacks, and began our trip back down. It took us a little over 5 hours to make the hike. I definitely need to get kiddo #1 some better hiking shoes. I am so proud of how well she did. She took a few spills on the loose rocks and never once complained.

Now for the reason we went. The views and the flowers were stunning. Not something to be missed if you enjoy hiking at all.
